Urgench Branch of the State Academy of Choreography of Uzbekistan
In accordance with Resolution No. 31 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, dated January 22, 2021, the Urgench Branch of the State Academy of Choreography of Uzbekistan was established to further improve the system of training qualified specialists in the field of national dance, preserve the ancient Khorezm dance “Lazgi,” promote its scientific study, and popularize it internationally.
Main Objectives of the Branch
The main objectives of the Urgench Branch are as follows:
- Integration of Science and Education: Ensuring the integration of scientific research and education by involving highly qualified and experienced professionals in the training process.
- Training of Qualified Specialists: Preparing highly qualified bachelor’s and master’s degree graduates in dance, as well as scientific and academic professionals capable of conducting advanced research in this field.
- Scientific Publications: Preparing and publishing educational, cultural, and popular science literature based on the results of scientific research.
- International Educational Cooperation: Supporting students by attracting national and international grants, facilitating their studies abroad, organizing scientific and creative activities, and regularly conducting joint concert programs.
- Development of Scientific and Creative Potential: Enhancing the research capabilities of academic staff, further developing scientific and creative activities, and actively involving talented students in these initiatives.
- Professional Development and International Internships: Systematically organizing retraining, professional development programs, and internships for specialists at relevant foreign higher education institutions.
Main Objectives of the “Lazgi” Department
The “Lazgi” Department is responsible for the following activities:
- Further developing the art of performing “Lazgi” and supporting established schools of performance and creative traditions.
- Ensuring the integration of scientific research, education, and performing arts.
- Establishing a “Golden Collection” of traditional “Lazgi” dance performances.
- Preserving traditional “Lazgi” performance styles while enriching them with modern interpretations, as well as conducting in-depth research into the dance’s socio-historical origins, scientific and theoretical foundations, and connections with national and universal cultural values, with the participation of researchers and professional performers.
- Establishing international cooperation to promote and popularize the art of “Lazgi” performance worldwide.
- Promoting “Lazgi” dance performances internationally through mass media and the Internet.
Cultural and Educational Facilities
In accordance with the resolution, the following facilities are planned to operate permanently under the Branch, funded through extra-budgetary resources:
- Permanent Exhibition: An exhibition showcasing the history, origins, and development of the “Lazgi” dance.
- Audio Archive: A collection of musical and artistic works associated with traditional “Lazgi” performances.
- Costume Gallery and Exhibition Hall: A gallery displaying traditional “Lazgi” costumes, along with an exhibition hall and an artists’ café.
- Children’s Amateur Theatre Studio: A children’s amateur theatre studio dedicated to the preservation and promotion of “Lazgi” dance traditions.
Branch Administration
The Urgench Branch of the State Academy of Choreography of Uzbekistan began its activities in the 2021–2022 academic year.
The current Director of the Branch is Shonazar Khusainovich Botirov.
